Taunton Adult Education Partnership

The Taunton Literacy Center

The Taunton Adult Education Partnership provides a full continuum of ABE (Adult Basic Education) and ESOL (Englis for Seakers of Other Laguages offering these benefits:

Free Classes
Classes are offered part-time days and evenings at no cost to the participants. This is a Massachusetts Department of Education grant funded program.

Meaningful Assessments
All students wishing to enroll in the program receive an initial placement screening to assess their basic reading, writing, math, and language ability. This is followed up by a complete data analysis conducted by the ABE & ESOL Counselor so that the student is aware of their cognitive level of learning.

Small Classes
Class size is purposely small (7-15) to allow students and teachers the opportunity to interact more on an individual or small group basis. Attendance and commitment are prerequisites to success in the program.

Standards Based Instruction
Students in both the day and evening sections receive instructions guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for ABE and ESOL classes from dedicated instructors.

What is ABE?

ABE or Adult Basic Education provides classroom instruction from basic literacy through GED preparation. Subjects include all those required for the GED testing. Literacy classes emphasize reading, phonics, writing, and math. All students are given an assessment test to determine their level of competency for class placement.

What is ESOL?

ESOL or English for Speakers of Other Languages provides classroom instruction for beginners through advanced levels. Instruction includes conversation, grammar, writing, American culture and traditions. Each student is assessed to determine understanding of the English language before placement in a class. Students are placed in classes according to their speaking and comprehension abilities.
