Creative Writing/Podcasting Workshop

On Saturday, April 7, 2007, fourteen children from Taunton, ages 8-13, joined author Sarah Lamstein for the first part of the library’s Creative Writing/Podcasting workshop. Each child worked with Sarah to produce their own original short story, which they would later record and podcast with the library’s Assistant Director, Daisy Delano. Sarah began by discussing her own experiences as a writer and her writing process with the participants. Then the children began brainstorming and working on their own short stories with Sarah providing guidance as needed. On Saturday, April 14, Sarah began the second session with some informal instruction on the art of dialogue and then asked each child to share his or her story with the group. Assistant Director Daisy Delano led the podcasting session on Saturday, April 21. Daisy recorded each child reading his or her own story and then posted each story as a podcast on the library’s website. The public can also download the children’s short stories by clicking the links below.

So successful was the first Creative Writing/Podcasting workshop that a second was held three Saturdays in June 2007, once again with the aid of Sarah Lanstein. The recording session for these Podcasts was held held on June 23.
